A little about me, first. For me, massage is therapy and treatment for pain so I can move, function, breathe, think, feel better for at least a few days. I am familiar with the anatomy of my muscles, their attachments and referral patterns, and I am always on the hunt for a massage therapist who can give a very strong, deep, intuitive massage. I am not seeking a basic rub at a spa.

I made an appointment with Lawrence (of Fresh Start Massage & Bodywork) because of how he described his practice on his site. My appointment was for Medical Massage. When I came in and we were first chatting, he was attuned to my body, even asking about my leg length based on the way I was standing. His assessments continued on the table as he moved around. He suggested ways I could hold my body that might help me in the future.

My first session with Lawrence was great: he worked my muscles and understood based on feel where a number of my issues were. He helped my shoulder move more than it had for months. I felt him feeling where he needed to go, he'd go there, and he'd listen to my feedback. He worked my leg, my neck, my hip, my back, my arms- even my jaw (allowing me to open my mouth noticeably wider for a dental visit). Good strong work.

At the time I went, this bodywork (though never inexpensive) was reasonably priced and a good value for the highly personalized service.

I know my body is a work in progress. but I look forward to the next session like the first one. I will be seeing Lawrence again and telling other people I know who have chronic pain (or just want a massage) about his practice.
